What To Know About This Production

Seussical! What's not to love. This show is full of color, wonder, energy and excitement! Horton is a selfless elephant who is faithful, loyal and true. He takes care of his friends and fiercely protects The Whos. The Cat in the Hat is the story teller of Horton the elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, which include JoJo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many "thinks." The story has it's ups and down, but ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community emerge triumphant. Seussical is fun for the whole family and we at RB Community Theater can't wait for you to be a part of bringing the familiar Dr. Seuss fables to life.

Auditions For Seussical

What To Expect At Auditions

If you are in the 6th - 12th grades and LOVE all things musical, then you've come to the right place. Here at RB Community we have a place for everyone in every show!!! No need for prior experience to join the fun.  

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Rehearsals are mostly Saturdays for ALL CAST - Leads will have some Friday evening and Sunday afternoon rehearsals.
  • Rehearsals are FUN, organized and prepared in such a way to be an efficient use of rehearsal time and space.
  • Everyone that wants to be a part of the production will be a part - no one is turned away.
  • RB Community creates a friendly, encouraging and supportive environment so every cast member can experience growth and confidence in their theater skills.
  • Auditions are FREE - If you commit to the show, you will have a $150 production fee due before the first rehearsal Jan 20, 2024
  • Headshots do NOT need to be professional - a cell phone picture chest up picture is fine.
  • Conflicts for Friday, Saturday and Sunday are all that is needed on your conflict sheet (since rehearsals are weekends only till tech week, we only need to know what rehearsals you have conflicts so we can cast and plan rehearsals accordingly).
  • VIDEO auditions are ONLY accepted for cast member who are unable to make auditions in person. Auditions for main parts via video will be asked to return for in person call-backs.

Want a MAJOR role?  

  • Your audition time slot is 10am - 4pm (you’ll pack a lunch).
  • Prepare a 1 minute (16 bars - pick a section that best shows what you can sing) song to sing - bring an accompaniment score or recorded karaoke track. Songs without accompaniment or acapella are NOT recommended.
  • Prepare a 1 minute monologue that shows a variety of characteristics you can portray.
  • Keep call-backs open on your calendar - Sunday Jan 14th 2pm - 6pm. Cast called back will be notified by 6pm audition day via text message.

Want to be a part of CHORUS only?

  • Your audition time slot is 10am - 12:30pm
  • You will NOT be asked to sing, but all auditioners do dance.  
  • Come to auditions wearing comfy clothes and shoes you can dance in (no jeans please).

Available Roles

  • The Cat in the Hat - The cat in the hat is the essence of mischief, fun and imagination. The cat stores things up, causes trouble, but always sets things right again. He helps Jojo discover the power of his own imagination as they create the story for the show together.
  • JoJo - JoJo is a young WHO child with a very BIG imagination. JoJo's imagination takes him on many adventures, but also gets him in trouble.
  • Horton the Elephant - A gents giant, rotund and appealing. Think of him as a big-hearted blue collar guy who is steadfast and responsible and always tries to do the right thing for his friends. He is imaginative and receptive to the world around him. He is very un-self-conscious.
  • Gertrude McFuzz - Gertrude is very self-conscious and aware that her on-feather tail issn' perfect. Gertrude changes during the show from a vain, neurotic, nervous and shy bird into one with the power to protect and care for a baby elephant bird and commit herself to Horton.
  • Mayzie La Bird - Mayzie is self-centered, selfish, and vain. Mayzie will never admit to her own flaws. She manipulates anyone she can into doing what she wants. But Mayzie isn't all bad and in the end does what is best for her egg.
  • Sour Kangaroo - Sour Kangaroo isn't really sour at all. She's just got a lot of attitude. She's loud, brassy and a lot of fun.
  • General Gengus Khan Schmitz - General Schmitz is bursting with pride at the military academy he runs, and the boys he turns out. He is not sadistic, mean or abusive. He is proud!
  • The Wickersham Brothers - These are not bad guys! They're simply a lot like kids who tease, play pranks and get a kick out of making mischief, although often at others' expense.
  • The Whos - They're a lot like you and me only so small as to be invisible. The Whos have their own town and way of life.
  • Jungle Creatures - These are animal characters that are real people at heart, just like us.
