What To Know About This Production

Our Town by Thornton Wilder is a play about everyday life in the small town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, in the early 1900s. Told by the Stage Manager, the play follows two families—the Gibbs and the Webbs—and focuses on George Gibbs and Emily Webb as they grow up, fall in love, marry, and face life’s joys and struggles. Divided into three acts—Daily Life, Love & Marriage, and Death & Eternity—the play shows how ordinary moments are actually extraordinary, reminding us to appreciate the beauty of life while we’re living it.

  • Dr Frank Gibbs - The town doctor, practical and caring, father to George.
  • Mrs Julia Gibbs - Dr. Gibbs’s wife, gentle and nurturing, dreams of traveling.
  • Mr Charles Webb - Editor of the town newspaper, knowledgeable and civic-minded.

  • Joe Stoddard - The town undertaker, solemn and steady.
  • Sam Craig - Emily’s cousin who returns for her funeral.
  • Constable Warren - The town policeman, friendly and watchful, keeping Grover’s Corners safe.
  • Ensemble - Citizens of Grover’s Corners (church choir, townsfolk, ballplayers, and neighbors) who fill out the life of the community and underscore the play’s theme of everyday existence.
