What To Know About This Production
This stirring musical depicts the hopes and aspirations of actual passengers on board the ill-fated ship, from the wealthy and powerful in first class, to the ambitious middle-class passengers, to the poor immigrants in steerage – all thrilled to be part of this historic voyage, hopeful for the future, and blissfully unaware of the tragedy ahead. TITANIC premiered on Broadway in April 1997, eight months before the well-known film of the same name. It went on to become a huge success, winning the Tony Award for Best Musical and thrilling audiences for its depiction of a defining moment in 20th-century history. The RMS Titanic was unlike any ship that had come before, a marvel of engineering and a powerful symbol of progress – until its deadly collision with an iceberg turned it into a representation of hubris and human frailty.
TITANIC is directed and choreographed for Theatre UP by Artistic Director Andrew Lidestri with music direction by Shoshana Lieberman.
