Auditions For The Drowsy Chaperone

What To Expect At Auditions

Auditions will be held at Dance Dimensions (23241 Ventura Blvd, Woodland Hills, CA 91364) across 2 days. Acting, voice auditions, and voluntary callbacks will take place on 05/28, then a dance call and formal callbacks on 05/29. Check-in for both days is 11:30am, and each day will finish no later than 06:30pm. Auditionees must attend both days. We encourage you to audition for any role you'd like to be considered for, regardless of gender. While you may not be auditioning the whole day, you may be asked to stick around, so consider your plans for lunch/snacks.

When prompted to include additional information, please provide the following:

  1. Preferred pronouns
  2. Age
  3. COVID Vaccination Status
  4. If you would accept an ensemble role
  5. If you would be interested in a crew position, and if so, what are your interests and relevant previous experience?
  6. Any special skills
  7. Any tap experience/tap shoes available

If you are unable to attend auditions in person for any reason, we will accept a video audition. Please reach out to aaron@debatableproductions.org for instructions and details on how to submit your video audition. A video audition is not required if you are attending the auditions in person. If you will be attending, leave that field on your form blank.

  • Man In Chair - Musical theatre aficionado who mourns the end of the Golden Era. He narrates the show as he listens to the record on vinyl. Gender: Male.
  • Mrs. Tottendale - The air-headed, proper, and bossy host of the wedding. Gender: Female. Vocal range top: Db5. Vocal range bottom: G3.
  • Underling - Mrs. Tottendale's savvy butler who is thrifty and stiff yet has an understated sense of humor. Gender: Male. Vocal range top: G4. Vocal range bottom: Ab2.
  • Robert Martin - The dashing, ever-cheerful groom; played by matinee-idol Percy Hyman. Gender: Male. Vocal range top: Ab4. Vocal range bottom: C3.
  • George - Robert's anxious, dim-witted best man who has Robert's best-interest always at heart. Gender: Male. Vocal range top: Bb4. Vocal range bottom: F3.
  • Feldzieg - Broadway producer who is desperate for his star to return to his show; played by Jack Adler. Gender: Male. Vocal range top: Db4. Vocal range bottom: Db3.
  • Kitty - Feldzieg's dim-witted companion who has hopes of being a star; played by Sadie Adler. Gender: Female. Vocal range top: F5. Vocal range bottom: Bb3.
  • Gangsters - Posing as pastry chefs, this duo is intending to collect from Feldzieg; played by the vaudeville duo Tall Brothers. Gender: Male. Vocal range top: Gb4. Vocal range bottom: Db3.
  • Aldolpho - European self-proclaimed
  • Janet Van De Graaf - The famous bride. Glamorous and talented star of Feldzieg's Follies; played by rising star Jane Roberts. Gender: Female. Vocal range top: E5. Vocal range bottom: G3.
  • The Drowsy Chaperone - Janet's alcoholic confidante and friend; played by well-established stage actress Beatrice Stockwell Gender: Female. Vocal range top: D5. Vocal range bottom: F3.
  • Trix - The brave and brash female aviator who, by chance, is recruited to perform the wedding. Race: Black. Gender: Female. Vocal range top: Eb5. Vocal range bottom: Ab3.
