What To Expect At Auditions




Summer Lyric Theatre at Tulane University will hold auditions in person on Friday, March 3, and Saturday, March 4, for its 56th Season. At this time, we are NOT accepting video submissions, so you do NOT need to submit a video link.

Friday, March 3

·      5:30 p.m.    AEA Auditions

Saturday, March 4

Youth Vocal & Dance Auditions (age 16 years and younger)

·      9:00 a.m.    

Adult Dance Auditions (age 17 years and up)

·      9:00 a.m.    Dance Auditions (Trained dancers and experienced movers)

·      10:45 a.m.  Movement Call (Actors & Singers who move)          

Adult Vocal Auditions (age 17 years and up)

·      1:00 p.m.

Sunday, March 5

·      10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.           Call Backs as needed.



We do hire AEA members, depending on the show/role. Since Summer Lyric is a bonded company with Actors' Equity Association, all cast members and stage managers will be eligible for EMC points if they are members of the Equity Member Candidacy program.


Summer Lyric Theatre will adhere to all Health & Safety Protocols set forth by Actors' Equity Association, Tulane University, the City of New Orleans, and the State of Louisiana. We will be following a fully vaccinated protocol (including booster). Cast members must bring their vaccination card with them to the first rehearsal.

Vocal Auditions

Please bring sheet music in the proper key. Music should be in a book or 3-ring binder. Cuts should be clearly marked. An accompanist will be provided.

Prepare two (2) contrasting songs, 16-32 bars. Songs should show vocal range, acting ability and should be in the style of shows in our season. You may be asked to sing only one song cut.

Dance Auditions

The 9:00 a.m. "Dance" Audition is specifically for The Music Man and Oliver!  We are looking for trained dancers and experienced movers.

The 10:45 a.m. "Movement" Audition is for all other auditioners, including Little Shop of Horrors. 

You should wear clothes that you can comfortably move in. Women are encouraged to wear character shoes and Men in jazz shoes. If you do not own the proper footwear, tennis shoes will do.

SEASON INFORMATION (Rehearsal & Performance Dates)

The Music Man- rehearsals begin May 24 (AEA begins May 29) and runs June 15-18.

Little Shop of Horrors - rehearsals begin June 19 and runs July 6-9.

Oliver! - rehearsals begin July 10 and runs July 27-30.
