Vintage Hitchcock by Chattanooga Theatre Centre in Chattanooga, Tennessee

What To Know About This Production

Spies, murder, love, and other trademarks of Alfred Hitchcock come to life in the style of a 1940s radio broadcast of the master of suspense’s earlier films. With The Lodger, Sabotage and The 39 Steps, Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play is a triple feature, complete with vintage commercials, that recreates a daring train chase, a serial killer’s ominous presence, and a devastating explosion through the magic of live sound effects and musical underscoring. Audiences who liked December’s It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play will love this this spooky, exciting piece by the same playwright.

Vintage Hitchcock will be directed by Rodney Van Valkenburg. It will run April 16 through May 2 on the Mainstage.

Auditions For Vintage Hitchcock

What To Expect At Auditions

The show will be double cast, with 3 men and 2 women playing approximately 30 parts. Each cast will have seven performances. Rehearsals will be 2 to 3 nights a week from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Rehearsals will start via Zoom and move to in-person around April 1.

During the approximately 15-minute Zoom auditions, it will be important to demonstrate the creative range of your voice. Actors will have microphones during the show, but demonstrating solid vocal technique, including excellent articulation, is a must. The good news is that actors do not need to physically match the characters, but vocally they do.

Two people will audition at a time and will be given a speech to deliver using multiple voices suggested by the director. Those auditioning may be asked to scream. Consider your Zoom space wisely. The auditions will be recorded and most likely callbacks will not be necessary.

In addition to the 5 actors, each cast will need a Foley artist to create many of the sound effects. During the audition, please let the director know if you would like to be considered to be a Foley artist.

If auditions slots are full, we will add more as needed.
