What To Expect At Auditions
CSA Civic Theatre Casting Notice: Sweat
Sweat by Lynn Nottage
A full length contemporary drama
Seeking 9 adult actors for Sweat
Byline: This poignant play takes a look at the de-industrial revolution through the lens of a history play, but also delves into the issues of today; the economy, immigration, race-relations in America, and politics. Lynn Nottage’s Sweat gives us characters filled with the good and the bad and asks us to reflect on our own views and the views of others. Nottage never tells us who’s right or who’s wrong, but always shows us who’s human.
Full Synopsis: Sweat tells the story of a group of steel workers in Berks County, Pennsylvania. They have spent their lives sharing drinks, secrets, and laughs while working together on the factory floor. But when layoffs and picket lines begin to chip away at their trust, the friends find themselves pitted against each other in a desperate fight to stay afloat. A play about the collision of race, class, family and friendship, and the tragic, unintended costs of community without opportunity. Character descriptions are provided at the link below
This play includes adult dialogue, racially charged language, and brief violence.
Performance Dates: February 10-12 at 7pm and February 13th at 2pm at CSA Civic’s James Dean Memorial Theater
