Annie Get Your Gun by The Huckleberry Star Theater in Meridian, Idaho

What To Know About This Production

Annie Oakley is a poor, but spirited and happy, country girl who lives by her native sharp-shooting ways which quickly makes her the star of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show where she meets and falls in love with expert rifleman Frank Butler. Unfortunately, the tough, outspoken Annie is not Frank’s idea of what a wife should be and the two remain at competitive odds. Then Annie is initiated into an Indian tribe whose Chief, Sitting Bull, gives her some good advice: only by deliberately, but discreetly, losing a shooting contest can she win Frank. Annie does so and the show ends with the exuberant climax “There’s No Business Like Show Business”.

Full Cast Read-through June 24th

Performance Dates: August 19-21st

We will be holding open auditions by video submission with in-person callbacks. Please read the following information carefully.

All video submissions must be received no later than May 1st by midnight. Submissions received later than this deadline will not be considered. We recommend turning in your video as soon as possible to avoid last-minute problems.

Your video should include the following:

  • An introduction: Please state your full name and what you will be performing for your song.
  • A vocal performance from a show tune or folk song of your choice (no pop music). Length should be somewhere around 32 bars or 1-minute long. It is highly recommended to have an accompaniment (either live or a recording) but it is not required.
  • Musical selection should reveal character, personality, vocal quality, and range.
  • All audition songs are expected to be memorized. Do not plan to sing the entire song, only 1 minute of singing or less is needed. Lengthy music introductions should be eliminated.

Your video will need to be recorded and hosted on either YouTube or Vimeo. On YouTube, you can change your video privacy settings.  VERY IMPORTANT: YOUR VIDEO NEEDS TO BE SET TO EITHER “PUBLIC” OR “UNLISTED.”  WE WON’T BE ABLE TO SEE VIDEOS SET TO “PRIVATE.”

You will need to create an account AND fill out the audition form on our "cast98" audition gateway (i.e. the page you are currently on). This is the website that we will use to post casting decisions and rehearsal schedules. Please keep your login information handy.

Very important: Please supply any dates you know you have conflicts for on your account on the audition gateway.

If you have any special talents such as juggling, acrobatics, dancing, lasso-ing that could be useful in this circus-themed play, please let us know on your audition form profile.

If you have multiple children auditioning, you will need to create a login for each child, which can then be managed under one parent account.  Please see this webpage and this webpage for instructions on how to set this up.

Callbacks

Callbacks will be held in two phases:

Phase 1) Video callbacks. You will make and submit a video that will include a song from Annie Get Your Gun (that we will send you) as well as a dance (which we will also send you a demo of). This video will be due on or before August 8th. Specific instructions will be emailed to you if we need you to prepare a callback video.

Phase 2) In-person callbacks.  In-person callbacks will be held in small groups and will be on Saturday, May 15th. If you are requested at callbacks, you will receive an email with the time and location and what to come prepared with. We will have an alternate in-person callback date on May 12th for people who know they will be out of town on May 15th. If this applies to you, please mark May 15th as a conflict on your audition profile.

The final casting decisions will be made and posted/emailed on May 19th. We will email you at the email address you give us on the audition gateway. The cast list will also be posted on the audition gateway where you created your audition account. Please make sure you use a valid email address that you check regularly as this will be our primary form of communication.

If you are cast into a role, there will be a $35 participation fee per person due on or before our first read-through rehearsal on June 24th. If this fee is a financial burden to you, please let us know after casting decisions are made and we will work with you on an individual basis.

If you want to be involved in a backstage position, such as set building, stage crew, costumes and props, etc., please fill out our “get involved” form on this webpage: https://thehuckleberrystar.com/get-involved/

We look forward to having you audition! If you have any questions or need help, please contact us here.
