Clue: On Stage by Ellensburg High School Drama in Ellensburg, Washington

What To Know About This Production

Based on the iconic 1985 Paramount movie which was inspired by the classic Hasbro board game, Clue is a hilarious farce-meets-murder mystery. The tale begins at a remote mansion, where six mysterious guests assemble for an unusual dinner party where murder and blackmail are on the menu. When their host turns up dead, they all become suspects. Led by Wadsworth – the butler, Miss Scarlett, Professor Plum, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock and Colonel Mustard race to find the killer as the body count stacks up. Clue is the comedy whodunit that will leave both cult-fans and newcomers in stitches as they try to figure out…WHO did it, WHERE, and with WHAT!

Auditions For Clue: On Stage

What To Expect At Auditions

AUDITIONS ARE AT THE EHS LITTLE THEATER. Prepare a 1-2 minute COMEDIC monologue that shows your acting talent. It does NOT have to be memorized (but it will definitely help). The first night will be your monologue, and I may have you read from sides (small scenes from the actual play). During callbacks we will read from sides and be in small groups. If the audition slots for September 9th fill up and there are more people wanting to audition, we will have some more initial auditions before the callbacks on the 10th. There is no singing or dancing required. Unfortunately because of COVID craziness, auditions this year will be semi-closed. What this means is that each 30 minute audition slot will have a maximum of 4 people. Only sign up for ONE audition slot. You will each have about 7 minutes, and you will be performing in front of a small audience. So you will need to sign up for an audition time slot and it will be just you, 3 other people and the director (and maybe one or two other "helpers"). Callbacks will be small groups as well.

Your conflict calendar is VERY important. I will schedule rehearsals off this calendar. The primary characters in this play (Wadsworth, Scarlet, White, Peacock, Mustard, Plum, and Green) will be at most every rehearsal, so if you have another obligation that will be taking you away 1-2 nights every week, a primary role is not for you. The supporting roles (which are also hilarious) may be more what your schedule can accommodate. I am not including required school functions (like choir/band concerts, etc. - those take priority), but you need to put those on the conflict calendar. If, after the play is cast, you end up with too many conflicts that we simply cannot work around, I will re-cast the part, and then you will likely end up with no part. So PLEASE be honest with yourself and me, and put down all the conflicts you have, and understand, that if you are cast in one of the 7 primary roles, I will expect you at 90% of the rehearsals. Until mid-November, your other activities will have to take a back seat.

TECH CREW: If you want to work tech crew, put that down as your preferred role. You will NOT have to audition; however, please sign up for the 4-4:30 time slot. THAT SLOT IS FOR PEOPLE ONLY INTERESTED IN TECH CREW AND NOTHING ELSE. Make sure you fill out your conflict calendar and upload a head shot. I would like you to come to the 4:00 audition time and at least chat about what you are interested in doing, experience, etc. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN TECH CREW IF YOU DO NOT GET A PART IN THE PLAY, YOU DO NOT NEED TO SIGN UP FOR THIS AUDITION SLOT. Just let me know that in your audition form, and I will ask you about it in your regular audition.

MASKS ARE REQUIRED TO BE WORN THROUGHOUT THE AUDITION PROCESS.

The following are character descriptions:

Wadsworth (M/F), a traditional British butler/housekeeper in every sense, uptight, formal and ‘by the book”. He/She is the driving force of the play.

Yvette (F) a sexy French maid with her own secret aspirations

Miss Scarlet (F) a dry, sardonic DC madam who is more interested in secrets than sex.

Mrs. Peacock (F) the churchgoing wife of a senator. A bit batty, neurotic, and quick to hysteria.

Mrs. White (F) a pale, morbid, and tragic woman. Mrs. White may or may not be the murderer of her five ex-husbands.

Colonel Mustard (M) a puffy, pompous, dense blowhard of a military man

Professor Plum (M) An academic Casanova who woos women with his big…brain

Mr. or Ms. Green (M/F 20+) a timid, yet officious rule follower. He/She is a bit of klutz and awfully anxious.

Mr. Boddy (M) A slick James Bond type fella

The Cook (M/F) A threatening presence

The Motorist (M/F) A benign person who rings the wrong doorbell

The Cop (M/F) A "regular Joe"

Singing Telegram Girl (F) A cute girl just trying to make a living

FBI Agent (M/F) An agent who helps save the day (we may have 2 or 3)

Reporter (M/F)
