The Ruth Asawa School of the Arts Theater Department is an integrated training program in which students get initial exposure to the various strands of theatre craft and then specialize in the upper grades. We audition students into our two majors: Acting and Musical Theatre. In the 9th and 10th grade years, students get a broader education in both areas with some specialized coursework focused on their major. In the 11th and 12th grades, students can fully specialize in Acting, Musical Theatre, or Devised Theatre (which includes devising, playwriting, and directing). Coursework is more narrowly focused in their major area, but there is also the opportunity for interdisciplinary learning.
