What To Know About This Production

Seussical! What's not to love. This show is full of color, wonder, energy and excitement! Horton is a selfless elephant who is faithful, loyal and true. He takes care of his friends and fiercely protects The Whos. The Cat in the Hat is the story teller of Horton the elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, which include JoJo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many "thinks." The story has it's ups and down, but ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community emerge triumphant. Seussical is fun for the whole family and we at RB Community Theater can't wait for you to be a part of bringing the familiar Dr. Seuss fables to life.

Available Roles

  • The Cat in the Hat - The cat in the hat is the essence of mischief, fun and imagination. The cat stores things up, causes trouble, but always sets things right again. He helps Jojo discover the power of his own imagination as they create the story for the show together.
  • JoJo - JoJo is a young WHO child with a very BIG imagination. JoJo's imagination takes him on many adventures, but also gets him in trouble.
  • Horton the Elephant - A gents giant, rotund and appealing. Think of him as a big-hearted blue collar guy who is steadfast and responsible and always tries to do the right thing for his friends. He is imaginative and receptive to the world around him. He is very un-self-conscious.
  • Gertrude McFuzz - Gertrude is very self-conscious and aware that her on-feather tail issn' perfect. Gertrude changes during the show from a vain, neurotic, nervous and shy bird into one with the power to protect and care for a baby elephant bird and commit herself to Horton.
  • Mayzie La Bird - Mayzie is self-centered, selfish, and vain. Mayzie will never admit to her own flaws. She manipulates anyone she can into doing what she wants. But Mayzie isn't all bad and in the end does what is best for her egg.
  • Sour Kangaroo - Sour Kangaroo isn't really sour at all. She's just got a lot of attitude. She's loud, brassy and a lot of fun.
  • General Gengus Khan Schmitz - General Schmitz is bursting with pride at the military academy he runs, and the boys he turns out. He is not sadistic, mean or abusive. He is proud!
  • The Wickersham Brothers - These are not bad guys! They're simply a lot like kids who tease, play pranks and get a kick out of making mischief, although often at others' expense.
  • The Whos - They're a lot like you and me only so small as to be invisible. The Whos have their own town and way of life.
  • Jungle Creatures - These are animal characters that are real people at heart, just like us.
