Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. is a fantastic adaptation of the classic story of transformation and tolerance. This story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed.

What To Expect At Auditions

All HOPE Academy Upper School students are welcome to audition to join the cast of Beauty and the Beast Jr. Leading and Supporting roles are reserved for Theater students, however Featured and Ensemble roles are open to all Upper School students.

A student fee of $250 will be charged to FACTS accounts for each participant in the musical. These student fees and ticket sales cover the costs of a large production (sets, costumes, the WCC AV Crew, mics, etc.).

The audition form collects student details needed for casting and building our custom rehearsal calendar. This requires guardian approval.

Audition forms are due by Wednesday 12/3.

AUDITION DAY:

When: Friday, December 5, 1:00–4:00 PM (select time slots)

Where: Fireside Room and Prayer Room, Worship Center

What to Expect:

-Each student will have a 3-minute private audition to perform their monologue and song. When called into the Prayer Room, students will introduce themselves and begin with their monologue before singing with the provided performance track.

HOW TO PREPARE:

-Complete your audition form profile. This includes a headshot (a photo of you from the shoulders up).

Rehearsals are not scheduled on official school breaks or weekends (except the performance weekend).

-Select an available audition time slot and choose a character from those listed under that time slot.

-Answer questions about your role preferences, attending all-cast dates, guardian approval, and vocal range (see link in email).

Available Roles

  • Belle - Belle is a smart, confident young woman from a small village You will want a strong singer and actress who is able to stand up to Gaston while showing compassion for Maurice, the Servants and eventually the Beast
  • Beast - The Beast is a young prince who was hideously transformed by the Enchantress spell Casting for size is not as important as choosing a student who can handle this complex character a dictator, a hurt child, a hero, a defender and a smitten prince Cast an actor who can deliver a range of conflicting emotional states Although the Beast does sing a small bit during Something There and the Finale, this is truly an acting role
  • Gaston - Gaston is pompous and dim-wittedharacter and will do whatever it takes to win Belles hand Gaston has all the confidence in the world but lacks the humility to balance it Finding a strong singer and actor is more important than physical size and stature for this role He has to be able to sell his big eponymous number with gusto and arrogance as well as lead the Villagers in The Mob Song
  • Lefou - Lefou is Gastons equally dim-witted lackey This character needs to be Gastons foil and should double the laughs for them both

  • Lumiere - Lumiere is a confident, charming French mitre d who (under the enchantresss spell) is becoming a candelabra He has an incessant bickering rapport with CogswortLumiere should be a strong singer who can light up the stage in Be Our Guest If you have a student who can handle the French accent, fantastic This role covers a range of emotions (from charming entertainer to brave soldier) and requires prominent song and dance, so try to cast a strong, versatile performer
  • Cogsworth - Cogsworth is the British major-domo of the castle who is becoming a clock Like all of the castle s Servants, he shows a fatherly compassion for Belle yet is perfectly submissive to the master, the Beast Cogsworth enjoys feeling like the boss and has no problem getting into it with Lumiere Cast a strong actor and singer who can act in charge
