What To Expect At Auditions
All HOPE Academy Upper School students are welcome to audition to join the cast of Beauty and the Beast Jr. Leading and Supporting roles are reserved for Theater students, however Featured and Ensemble roles are open to all Upper School students.
A student fee of $250 will be charged to FACTS accounts for each participant in the musical. These student fees and ticket sales cover the costs of a large production (sets, costumes, the WCC AV Crew, mics, etc.).
The audition form collects student details needed for casting and building our custom rehearsal calendar. This requires guardian approval.
Audition forms are due by Wednesday 12/3.
AUDITION DAY:
When: Friday, December 5, 1:00–4:00 PM (select time slots)
Where: Fireside Room and Prayer Room, Worship Center
What to Expect:
-Students will enter/exit through the back doors of the Fireside Room. Theater carline follows the usual route behind the Worship Center (similar to Lower School carline).
-Each audition time slot is an hour. This includes both the private and dance auditions for the characters listed. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early for your selected time slot and do not leave until you've completed your dance audition.
-Students may review their memorized monologues/songs and practice a short dance combo in the Fireside Room while they wait to be called for their private audition and small-group dance audition.
-Each student will have a 3-minute private audition to perform their monologue and song. When called into the Prayer Room, students will introduce themselves and begin with their monologue before singing with the provided performance track.
HOW TO PREPARE:
-Complete your audition form profile. This includes a headshot (a photo of you from the shoulders up).
-Fill in your conflict calendar. Avoid using the general availability section and select weekdays on the calendar that you cannot attend or can only attend a part of an afternoon rehearsal (3:15-5:30pm). Rehearsals are not scheduled on official school breaks or weekends (except the performance weekend).
-Select an available audition time slot and choose a character from those listed under that time slot.
-Answer questions about your role preferences, attending all-cast dates, guardian approval, and vocal range (see link in email).
-Open the BATB Audition Materials doc (see link in email).
-Click the document tab with the name of the character (or ensemble group) you will be auditioning for.
-Memorize the audition monologue and song for the character you will be auditioning for.
-Learn and practice the short dance combo in Fireside on audition day.
CALLBACKS
All callbacks will be communicated the weekend after auditions. This is to see students audition as another character or with other characters, as needed.
Those called back will be asked to prepare specific "sides" (portions of the script) and songs.
Callback Time: Wednesday, December 10, 3:15–5:00 PM
Location: Fireside Room and Prayer Room
