9 to 5: The Musical by RHS Gold Masque in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey

What To Know About This Production

9 to 5: The Musical, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, is based on the seminal 1980 hit movie. Set in the late 1970s. this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic.

Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy – giving their boss the boot! While Hart remains "otherwise engaged," the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down.

Auditions For 9 to 5: The Musical

What To Expect At Auditions

Auditions will take place on Saturday, January 11, 2020. All auditionees will need to attend a dance call in the morning and sign up for a vocal audition in the afternoon. The dance call will take place from 9:30 am – 10:30 am. You will be asked to fill out an additional copy of your conflict calendar and bring this calendar to your vocal audition. Students without a paper copy of their conflict calendar may not be seen.

Callbacks will take place on Wednesday, January 15, 2020.

For this show, the production team is looking to cast 18-20 students. We do anticipate having to make cuts, so availability, energy, dedication to the production, and willingness to work with the directors will be taken into consideration when casting.

Students do no need to prepare anything for the dance call, but they should attend the call wearing proper dance attire.

Students should prepare a one-minute cut of a musical theatre song in the style of the show for vocal auditions. Students should bring sheet music with their cut marked to the audition, as an accompanist will be provided.

Please Note by signing up for an audition, you agree to the following:

ATTENDANCE POLICY

It is imperative that cast attends rehearsals as expected. It is understood that illnesses and emergencies can arise; however, clear and direct communication about such incidences is expected. In the event that you are absent from school, you are to send an email to Mr. Spence, Ms. Steier, Ms. Sporn, Ms. Reitter and the student Stage Manager, so they can make arrangements to rehearse without you. Any other absence will not be excused. Two unexcused and undocumented absences will result in the reassignment of your role. No one may miss a rehearsal, come late to a rehearsal, or leave early from a rehearsal from April 13, 2020 to opening night.

MEMORIZATION POLICY

To be part of a show requires some homework, including reviewing blocking on your own, doing some character work, and memorizing lines. Students are to be off book, completely by April 1, 2020. If lines and blocking are not memorized by their deadlines, it is likely that your role will be reassigned.

OTHER EXPECTATIONS

Cast members are expected to sell $100 worth of advertisements. They are highly encouraged to sell more than this minimum. This money allows us to create larger production elements and ultimately a bigger and better show.

Students must be respectful to all production team members. Blatant disrespect for production team members will be grounds for removal from the production.

Students are responsible for the care of any costumes or props placed in their care. If a costume or prop is damaged by a student, intentionally or unintentional, that student will need to pay for the replacement of the costume or prop.

Students are expected to respect the facilities they use at RHS. Facilities are not to be used by a student without supervision of the adult staff. If you come to rehearsal or set construction and a production team member is not there, wait outside the Auditorium and use the time to go over your lines. There is no eating or drinking in the Auditorium, and students MUST clean up all sites that they use.

In order to participate in an after-school rehearsal or performance students must be in school by 10:00 a.m. on the day of rehearsal or performance.

Please document on your agreements to the above policies by writing "I agree to all stated Gold Masque policies" in the comment section of your audition form.
