What To Know About This Production

Lisa Noyes and Allison Dodge will be directing this very fun and energetic show. Based on the award-winning Broadway musical and the smash hit motion picture, Legally Blonde: The Musical JR. is a fabulously fun journey of self-empowerment and expanding horizons. The show's instantly recognizable songs are filled with humor, wit and sass — leaving cast members and audiences alike seeing pink!

Legally Blonde JR. follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. When Elle's boyfriend, Warner, dumps her and heads to Harvard, claiming she's not "serious" enough, Elle takes matters into her own hands, crafting a showy song-and-dance personal essay and charming her way into law school. Befriending classmate, Emmett, and spunky hairdresser, Paulette, along the way, Elle finds that books and looks aren't mutually exclusive. As Elle begins outsmarting her peers, she realizes that law may be her natural calling after all.

Legally Blonde JR. features large, energetic dance numbers with an expandable cast of sorority sisters, law school students, hairdressers and more.

As a youth show, all cast members must be between the ages of 13-18 years old at the time of auditions. Auditions will be held at the Draper Amphitheatre on Friday, May 3, 2024 7-9pm AND Saturday, May 4, 2024 4-8pm. Callbacks will be by invitation only and held on Saturday, May 11, 2024

What To Expect At Auditions

DAC Legally Blonde: The Musical Jr. auditions are here!

Please read ALL of the below info before signing up. Please be at least 15 minutes early for your time slot (except the first time slot of each day) in case we are running fast

Ages 13-18 - at the time of auditions. Please prepare 16 bars (1minute) of a song in the STYLE of the show, but NOT from the show. Please bring a minus track (with no vocals) on a device to be played as your accompaniment, OR your own accompanist.

Please arrive for your audition time slot 15 minutes early (unless you are the first time slot of each night) and will be called in one at a time for your individual audition. Expect to be at the audition for up to an hour.

- Fri, May 3 7-9pm OR Sat, May 4 4-7pm AUDITIONS at Draper Amphitheater 944 Vestry Rd, Draper UT - sign up for a time slot below.

- Sat, May 11 CALLBACKS (by invitation only)

- Sat, May 25 at 9am will be a MANDATORY parent meeting for all kids who are cast and at least one parent, or guardian.

-Sat, Jun 1 9-1pm Extra rehearsal

- July 19, 20 (maybe), 22-25 MANDATORY TECH rehearsals (these will be evening rehearsals) Must have NO conflicts during this time

- July 26, 27, 29, Aug 2 & 3 - Performances! **Following the closing night performance, all cast and parents will be required to help strike the set.

Regular rehearsals will begin Mon, Jun 3 and will be M-F 9am-1pm at the Draper Amphitheater. Not all actors will be called to all rehearsals, BUT no actor may miss any tech rehearsals or performances. We understand that it is the summer, but with a short 8 week turn around, we need all of the the rehearsal time we can get. Therefore, lead roles will be given to qualified actors with the least conflicts - particularly in July. Conflicts won't prevent you from being cast but may prevent being given a lead.

If your child is cast, there will be a $50 cast fee.

Parents of youth cast in the show are required to serve a minimum of 5 hours on a volunteer committee AND help with striking the set following the closing night performance on Sat, August 3. They may also be asked to help with supervision at rehearsals and backstage at performances.

Draper Arts Council seeks to honor the intentions of the works we produce. If nothing specific is given by the original playwright regarding the characteristics of any given role, and/or if those characteristics do not affect the intended story in any significant way, we will not consider any certain person or type over others when casting.

Elle Woods - Elle Woods may appear like a typical blonde California sorority girl, but don't count her out. She is hardworking, optimistic and tenacious. Cast an excellent performer in all areas: singing, dancing and acting. Most importantly, find a young lady with an earnest, loveable spirit. Gender: Female
Margot - Margot, Serena and Pilare are Elle's trio of best friends and Delta Nu sisters. These three roles are perfect for a group of young ladies with great singing and acting abilities, and most importantly, lots of energy! Handpick three girls who make a complementary, dynamic group.

Kate - Kate is a featured Delta Nu sister - the acedemic of the bunch. This is a great role for a young performer who has a little more experience than the rest of the Delta Nu girls. Gender: Female
Warner Huntington III - Warner Huntington III is a fantastic role for a young man who is both a good singer and actor. He is Elle's ex-boyfriend and caught between his former life with Elle and his newfound serious East Coast life with Vivienne. Be sure to cast a guy who can play both worlds. Gender: Male
Grandmaster Chad - Grandmaster Chad is a fun cameo role for a young guy who is a great musician but may be less experienced onstage.This is a standout role from the other fraternity brothers and requires a lot of energy. Gender: Male
Winthrop - Winthrop, Lowell and Pforzheimer are three admissions officers of Harvard Law School who eventually admit Elle into the program after some critical evaluation. These performers should be great actors, capable of showing some age and character. Feel free to cast three young actors who may look different but complement one another well.

Vivienne Kensington - Vivienne Kensington is the very opposite of Elle, if judging only by demeanor. She comes from a very conservative East Coast background and is everything that Warner needs to make a serious move to become a lawyer. Cast a great singer and an actress who can make the bold transition from being Elle's nemesis to being her friend. Gender: Female
Whitney - Whitney is Vivienne's law school friend and partner in mischief when it comes to bringing down Elle.This is fun role for a less experienced performer who has wonderful energy and presence. Gender: Female
Professor Callahan - Professor Callahan is the most-feared professor at Harvard Law School. Be sure to find a young man who can convey authority and strength. Callahan need not be the most experienced singer, as long as he uses his best acting chops to portray this villainous role. Gender: Male
Paulette - Paulette is a wonderful role for your best comedienne. While she is a bold character, her self-esteem needs a little boost now and then. Your performer should be a great singer and an even better actor. Gender: Female
Brooke Wyndham - Brooke Wyndham is a famous fitness video guru on trial for killing her husband. This is a high-spirited role for a young lady who is a triple-threat: a great singer, dancer and actress. Cast an advanced performer who can really portray her very difficult predicament. Gender: Female
Dewey - Paulette's brash ex-husband who lives in a trailer and holds her dog captive. Although Dewey doesn't have a lot of stage time, it is a great cameo role for a young man who is less experienced but fearless in his acting choices. Gender: Male
Chutney Wyndham - Chutney Wyndham has a really bad perm and an even worse attitude. She is Brooke's unhappy stepdaughter who is actually guilty for killing her father and framing Brooke. This is a role for an actress who may be new to the stage but has hilarious instincts. Gender: Female
Kyle - Kyle is the UPS delivery man who Paulette has her eyes on each time his job brings him to the salon. Cast a great actor who may have an Irish Jig in his back pocket. Gender: Male
