The Monologue Show by Ellensburg High School Drama in Ellensburg, Washington

What To Know About This Production

About the show: "It took Mr. Denison's drama class three long months to prepare for their monologue show . . . but barely a minute to throw all their plans out the window. From the couple staging their real-life break-up to the garden-gnome thief confessing his crimes, everything that can go wrong will in this flexible collection of hilarious tall tales."

This will be a streamed show (not live). Rehearsals will be small (4 students and me), and involve several different groups. We are under a tight time crunch because the District has only given us until December 18th to get this show cast, rehearsed, filmed and posted. I am working frantically to get this together, but don't worry, it will be a blast.

We will be taking all health precautions. Dr. Larson and the District have approved our plan. We can do this show socially-distanced because it is going to be filmed. This should give everyone who wants a chance to act the opportunity to act. So if you have ever wondered what it is like to be in a show, this is your chance!

Auditions For The Monologue Show

What To Expect At Auditions

Since this is probably the most unusual year in your educational history, auditions will be unusual as well. Auditions will be virtual. What does that mean? I need you to film yourself performing a 60 - 90 second monologue. This does not have to be memorized (but it will help). If you cannot come up with a monologue that you like, just tell me a story about your life in 60 - 90 seconds. Monologues can be found online, so just choose one that fits your personality.

PROCESS:

You can film your monologue on your phone or any other device. It does not have to be professional quality. If you cannot film your audition, let me know. We can probably do a few in person auditions if we need to.

In your video, introduce yourself (name, age, grade, etc.) tell me what the monologue is, and then perform. At the end of the performance, tell me anything you would like me to know about you and how you would like to perform this year. Because of COVID and all the uncertainty, I am NOT requiring you to perform in person if you are not comfortable with that. We can figure out a way to have you virtually perform. If you are only comfortable performing in front of me with no other actors around, tell me that. We can accommodate that. Basically, what I am saying is that I am WAY more flexible this year than I would be in a "normal" year. I want everyone to have a chance to act if you want to act. The monologues in this show are not long, so you will not need to memorize 800 pages of lines. If you have ever wanted to try acting, this is the year to do it!

Once you are done filming, email the file to me at directorfallplay@gmail.com. If you are savvy enough, email me a link to the file so I can download it myself. Sometimes Gmail will kick back files that are too large. If you have ANY questions at all about this process, please email me.

Your audition submission is due NO LATER than 11 p.m. on 10/09/2020! Earlier is better.
