Into the Woods by Summer Lyric Theatre at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana

What To Know About This Production

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

One of Sondheim's most popular works, Into the Woods, is a musically sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature actors adept at dark comedy. Designers will especially enjoy highlighting the fantastical elements of this magical word.

Auditions For Into the Woods

What To Expect At Auditions

Summer Lyric Theatre at Tulane University 2022 Audition Information (Into the Woods)

Please make sure you are using an "audition profile" when submitting an audition. The other option (family profile) is being phased out.

This season we will be presenting three productions: Bandstand (June 23-26), Into the Woods (July 14-17), Rent (Aug. 4-7).

Due to health and safety protocols, all auditions will be conducted through online video submissions via the Cast 98 website. To audition for any or all of the three shows, you must go to https://cast98.com, sign up for an account, and "follow" Summer Lyric Theatre at Tulane University (https://us.cast98.com/studios/slt). On the site, you will be able to upload your headshot and resume and input your role preference, conflicts, video URL, and other pertinent information. You must submit a separate submission for each show. We will accept submissions via Cast98 from February 7- March 7, 2022.

Into the Woods rehearsals are June 27- July 13, with performances July 14- July 17, 2022.

VOCAL AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Into the Woods: Please submit a 16 to 32-bar cut (or 30-45 secs) of a song in a "legit" style. Please do not submit a whole song. You can sing something from the show, but please make sure your selection shows off your vocal and acting ability. Feel free to put your own spin on a traditional song. If you would like to submit two song cuts to show contrasting styles, you may but please remember you are not required to do so.

DANCE AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

All shows will have movement of some kind.

Into the Woods- Please submit the Movement video from the Bandstand movement video.

Filming/video instructions- please use the landscape framing (Picture wider than taller) for your movement video. Make sure your whole body is always in the frame.

AUDITION VIDEO SUBMISSION

You can have separate videos for your songs and dance/movement videos, but the best way would be to put them all into one video. If that is beyond what you can do, don't worry about it. Also, remember that while you may combine song and dance into one video, audition elements from different shows may not be combined; different shows require different video submissions. Ensure your main vocal video URL is in the Video Submission area on the Audition Sheet. Then, copy the other link(s) into the Additional Information section of that form.

Videos need to be uploaded to a platform like YouTube or Vimeo and then submit the URL. You cannot upload videos to this audition platform.
