What To Know About This Production

Starting with their 2014 production of Godspell, the Krewe of Good Gifts has been using their talents to minister to the world about Jesus Christ. Highlights include The Father’s Love Letter (2015), Titanic: The Musical (2016), Then Sings My Soul: A Night of Hymns (2017) and an innovative, audience-participatory presentation of Godspell (2018). The Krewe has been performing concerts ever since, and 2024 marks the return of the Krewe to Broadway with a production of Pippin, set in New Orleans!

Under the direction of the Holy Spirit, the Krewe of Good Gifts is a Christian performing arts fellowship dedicated to providing a nurturing environment to foster the “good gifts” we’ve been given, creating ministry opportunities through excellent performance, and ultimately spreading the Good News of Jesus

What To Expect At Auditions

Auditions will be held at Calvary Chapel Downey in the choir room. Address: 12808 Woodruff Ave, Downey, CA 90242

Please be early for your audition appointment; we will not be able to extend your audition appointment if you are late.

All featured roles will read sides from the play (will be provided at the audition); all parts but Lewis will also sing a prepared song.

Please prepare the song corresponding to the role you wish to audition for. You are welcome to sing and read for multiple roles!

  • Pippin - Our story's young and confused protagonist. He is longing to find his purpose in life. Naive, innocent, and discontent. Eventually finds love, and meaning in life, with Catherine and Theo. Gender: Male // Vocal Range: Tenor
  • Leading Player - The ultimate 'ring leader.' Masterfully charming and manipulative, the Leading Player is a chameleon of sorts. Guides Pippin through his own story and tries to intervene at the end. Excellent mover. Obsessed with putting on a great show for the audience. Gender: Female // Vocal Range: Alto Role requires strong sense of physicality and movement.
  • Charlemagne - Pippin's demanding father. As the King of the Holy Roman Empire, Charlemagne is more comfortable wielding a sword than breaking bread. He wears his years with great pride. Gender: Male // Vocal: Baritone
  • Fastrada - Pippin's conniving stepmother, she is both beautiful and smart. Devious, crafty, cunning, untrustworthy. Dedicated to gaining the throne for her darling son, Lewis. Gender: Female // Vocal Range: Soprano
  • Catherine - A widow and mother. She is a beautiful and a hopeless romantic, who possesses graceful elegance. Encounters Pippin at his lowest point and eventually falls in love with him. Gender: Female // Vocal Range: Soprano
  • Berthe - Pippin's saucy grandmother. A brassy woman full of wisdom, grace, and sass. She tries to help Pippin and encourages him to live his life to the fullest. Gender: Female // Vocal Range: Alto
  • Lewis - Charlemagne and Fastrada’s son. Strong and not bright. Pippin’s halfbrother and after Pippin, heir to the throne. Addicted to the physical, Lewis loves weight lifting, Lewis loves wrestling, but most of all, Lewis loves Lewis. Requires good physicality. Gender: Male //
  • Theo - Catherine’s son. Male, 7-13 yrs old. This role will be auditioned by invitation only
  • Players - These are the singers and actors whose influence on Pippin moves the story along. They are pranksters, and always loyal to the Leading Player.
